Christian Formation
Picture to the right: Christ the Vine
(see John 15:1-8)

Presbyterian Christians believe the Way of Christ is an experience in continual formation, where God is the potter and we are the clay (see Jeremiah 18:1-6; Romans 9:21). In addition, God has called us into community with other believers so we may be strengthened and encouraged to continue on the Way of Christ, and becoming more and more in the likeness of Christ Himself (see Acts 8:26-40).

At FPCS we believe in providing all our pilgrim sisters and brothers opportunities to grow, be it within a formal class room setting or through guided instruction.

Below are some of the opportunities:

Ecumenical Small Group:

Erradicating Global Poverty

The First Presbyterian Church of Scottsburg announces the opening of its School of Love, where Jesus is the Teacher, the Bible is our Textbook and the World our Classroom.  The first program offered by the School of Love will be a 7-week Bible Study, ERADICATING GLOBAL POVERTY—A Christian Study on the United Nations’ Millenium Development Goals, which will meet in the BASEMENT of the church located at 396 W. McClain (The church with the Red Doors).  This hope-filled, ecumenical study was commissioned by the National Council of Churches, USA.  It is designed to inform those interested in finding out the steps to combat HIV/AIDS, reduce child mortality, and alleviate hunger and extreme poverty around the globe, and, further, explore what is God asking of us, and how can one individual or one congregation make a difference.  While approaching poverty from a Christian perspective, the group is open to anyone of any faith tradition, or anyone without affiliation with a faith community.  All are welcome who have a deep concern about the existence of extreme poverty in a world of plenty.
The group will be lead by Carol Dunn, and will meets on 6:30 Monday evenings once a month. Call Carol at 7524199 for more information or contact her through this websites e-mail form.
